Ecopetrol and Petrobras prepare to market 2.5 bcm/year from Colombian gas field

The Colombian energy company Ecopetrol has announced its partnership with Brazilian oil and gas group Petrobras to jointly market the natural gas output from Colombia's Sirius Project (Ecopetrol press release, 30/10/2025).

  • The companies expect to sell up to 249 mcf/d (approximately 2.5 bcm/year) over a six-year period to “ensure efficient, objective, and public allocation of natural gases” from the field, according to Ecopetrol's President.
  • The US$5bn project is expected to start operations in 2030 and it has estimated reserves of about 6 bcf or about 170 mcm

The Sirius block is owned by Ecopetrol (55.6%) and Petrobras (44.4%), with the later working as the project’s operator.
